Back to School: Allen Press Packs Backpacks for Local Kids

Back 2 School Supply Drive provides Lawrence families with classroom essentials
Each year, the Salvation Army of Douglas County collaborates with Ballard Community Services, ECKAN , The United Way, Lawrence Rotary Club, Hallmark, First United Methodist Church, Great Plains Media and the Douglas County Community Foundation for the Back 2 School Supply Drive, a charitable cause focused on helping Lawrence kids from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th Grade get the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
The Back 2 School Supply Drive aims to assist underprivileged children and families below the poverty line in Douglas County by providing items such as backpacks, paper, pencils and notebooks. For many families, the cost of school supplies can be a difficult burden. The Salvation Army of Douglas County makes the school supplies available for any Douglas County family who meets the qualifications for free and reduced-price lunches.
In its sixth year, the Salvation Army of Douglas County has helped more than 6,000 children by providing essential school supplies. The Back 2 School Supply Drive runs each summer before the school year begins, and collects supplies or monetary donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
School supplies donated in 2018 include:
- Backpacks
- Shoes
- Pencils
- Pens
- Notebooks
- Art supplies
- And much more!
Once all the items are collected and separated, local volunteers pack the backpacks over the course of two weeks. This year, the Back 2 School Supply Drive prepared almost 1,000 backpacks for Lawrence kids, of which Allen Press proudly packed over 120 backpacks.
Supporting the local community through volunteer efforts
Allen Press firmly believes in supporting our local community and strives to be a progressive force for good. We have a strong commitment to the community and regularly offer support through volunteering, monetary donations as well as providing pro bono printing and marketing services.
Six Allen Press team members volunteered an afternoon to help prepare backpacks for the Back 2 School Supply Drive. Each volunteer was given a list of supplies and a backpack to fill. There might have been a little friendly competition to see who could pack the most backpacks, but a good time was had by all.
Giving locally and nationally
Making the world a better place is part of who we are as a company. Earlier this summer, Allen Press donated to the LeBron James Family Foundation and the I Promise School. Education is key to a young person’s future, and we are strongly dedicated to supporting education of all kinds and helping at-risk and underprivileged families achieve their dreams.
